The Pax Britannica Trilogy comprises three books of history written by Jan/James Morris. The books cover the British Empire, from the earliest days of the East India Company to the troubled years of independence and nineteen-sixties post-colonialism. The books were written and published over a ten-year period, beginning in 1968 with Pax Britannica: The Climax of Empire.

The books in chronological order are:

Heaven’s Command: An Imperial Progress (1973)
Pax Britannica: The Climax of Empire (1968)
Farewell the Trumpets: An Imperial Retreat (1978)

About Jan Morris

(Catharine) Jan Morris (born James Humphry Morris; 1926 – 2020) was a Welsh historian, author and travel writer. She was known particularly for the Pax Britannica trilogy (1968–1978), a history of the British Empire, and for portraits of cities, including Oxford, Venice, Trieste, Hong Kong and New York City. She published under her birth name, James, until 1972, when she had gender reassignment surgery after transitioning from male to female.
