About Mrs Newton Crosland

Mrs Newton Crosland (1812–1895) was an English writer of fiction, poetry, essays and sketches. She also translated some plays and poetry by Victor Hugo.

Memorable Women Synopsis

In the preface, the author says she has attempted to ‘set before the young women of the present day, examples of wives and mothers, who have done their duty under difficulties and temptations’. The women she has included are Rachel Wriothesley, Lady Russell, Madame D’Arbley and Mrs Piozzi, Mary L. Ware, Mrs Hutchinson and Lady Fanshawe, Margaret Fuller, Marchesa Ossoli, and Lady Sale.
